Researchers from around the world gather in Nuuk

Written by Arctic Hub

This week, researchers from across the globe are gathering for the Greenland Science Conference. The goal is to strengthen collaboration on research in Greenland.

How can the growing international interest in research in Greenland be turned into real value and change here in the country?

That is one of the key questions which researchers, students, and decision-makers will discuss at the major international research conference Greenland Science Conference 2025, taking place at Katuaq on November 12-13 and organized by Arctic Hub.

Participants from 22 countries

More than 350 participants have registered for the Greenland Science Conference 2025, coming from all over the world. In total, 22 countries are represented at the conference. Greenland and Denmark will have the largest delegations, but there are also participants from Canada, Iceland, Japan, the United States, Nigeria, and the Faroe Islands.

“It is truly uplifting to see that so many have chosen to prioritize attending the Greenland Science Conference. It shows that research in Greenland is of great importance – not only for us here in the country, but for the entire world,” says Avijâja Rosing-Olsen, Head of Secretariat at Arctic Hub.

“The Greenland Science Conference is about finding solutions to the challenges we face as a society. To achieve that, it is crucial that we collaborate across institutions and national borders,” says Avijâja Rosing-Olsen.

All eyes on Greenland

The theme of the Greenland Science Conference is ‘All Eyes on Greenland!’. A key focus of the conference will therefore be how international interest can be turned into research with and for Greenland – not just about Greenland

“Research simply becomes better when we work together. But to create sustainable collaboration based on equality and respect, it is important that we meet face-to-face, like here at the conference, and listen openly to each other’s perspectives.”

The Greenland Science Conference is organized by Arctic Hub, in close collaboration with AAU Arctic, Ilisimatusarfik – University of Greenland, Greenland Institute of Natural Resources, Greenland Climate Research Center, DTU – Technical University of Denmark, Asiaq, Qeqqata Kommunia and ILLU Science and Art.

A part of Greenland’s largest research event

The research conference is a part of Greenland Science Week, which is already underway. Across the country, events are being held where the public can meet researchers and learn more about their work. You can read the full program at www.scienceweek.gl.
