Take the lead at Arctic Hub and drive research forward in Greenland

Written by Arctic Hub

Do you share the vision of increasing the societal value of research conducted in Greenland? And would you like to lead a dynamic and ambitious secretariat? This is your opportunity to develop Arctic Hub’s Secretariat in Nuuk further.

As Head of Secretariat, you will help put research in Greenland on the agenda and lead efforts to ensure that research-based knowledge can be actively used in society. You will be responsible for strengthening Arctic Hub’s role as a central hub for Arctic research stakeholders and representing the organization externally. This means your daily work will include active participation in both national and international forums.

A link between the Secretariat and the board

As Head of Secretariat, you will be the board’s closest collaborator. You will serve as a natural bridge between the board and the Secretariat, working closely with an engaged board on strategic decisions and tasks.

Day-to-day leadership of a growing Secretariat

You will lead a highly committed secretariat. Since its establishment in 2020/2021, the Secretariat has grown from an idea on paper to a core team of four full-time staff and several project employees. You will ensure that the team continues to have the right conditions to implement Arctic Hub’s strategy.

We expect you to have a natural ability to involve your team and foster collaboration across their diverse areas of expertise. The Secretariat is an open, supportive workplace with room to grow, and your leadership style should contribute to both personal and professional development among staff.

In addition to personnel management, you will also be responsible for stakeholder collaboration — helping to build bridges between research, government, and industry across Greenland, Denmark, and internationally.

About you

You hold a relevant academic degree and have at least three years of leadership experience. Ideally, you have knowledge of the Greenlandic, Danish, and international research landscapes. Political acumen and a diplomatic mindset are essential.

We also expect that you:

  • Are dedicated and able to identify opportunities and generate interest, visibility, and enthusiasm for Arctic Hub’s mission
  • Have strong knowledge of Greenlandic society
  • Are experienced in managing budgets, administration, project reporting, and resources
  • Possess strong analytical skills
  • Excel at building and maintaining networks — nationally and internationally
  • Are skilled in facilitating collaboration and leading meetings with diverse stakeholders
  • Have solid experience developing and managing projects independently, with a strong grasp of processes
  • Are outgoing and have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Fluency in Greenlandic, Danish, and English will be a clear advantage.

About Arctic Hub

Arctic Hub is a central and unique hub for Arctic research focusing on Greenland. Greenland and Denmark have jointly established the locally rooted Secretariat in Nuuk, and the ambitions for the Arctic Hub are many and high. At the Secretariat, we work to bridge the gap between research and the rest of society. You can read more about Arctic Hub at www.arctichub.gl.

Terms of employment

The Greenland Institute of Natural Resources hosts the Secretariat of Arctic Hub. Therefore, you will be employed by the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources but will report to the Chair of the Arctic Hub Board.

The position is financed through the national budgets of both Denmark and Greenland. It is thus a permanent position, subject to continued funding via the national budgets.

Salary and terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of employment between the Government of Greenland and your relevant union.

Start date

The application deadline is Wednesday, 3 July 2025.  A personality test will be conducted between the two interview rounds. The position is expected to be filled no later than 1 September 2025.
