Arctic Hub appoints new Head of Secretariat
Arctic Hub has appointed Avijâja Rosing-Olsen as its new Head of Secretariat. She joins from her position as Senior Advisor in the Ministry of Nature and Environment, where she was responsible for drafting Greenland’s first national climate strategy.
“I am proud of the trust that has been placed in me and look forward to taking on this meaningful task. Research and the communication of research have the potential to play a greater role in societal development – by supporting decision-making processes, shedding light on challenges from different perspectives, and by strengthening the relationship between the public, policymakers, and researchers,” says Avijâja Rosing-Olsen.
As Head of Arctic Hub’s secretariat, based in Nuuk, she will be responsible for managing the office staff and serving as a link to Arctic Hub’s Board of Directors.
A bridge between research and society
Arctic Hub was established in 2020 as a collaboration between Greenland and Denmark. The purpose is to build bridges between research and society. Arctic Hub therefore functions both as a gathering point for researchers and as a platform to share new knowledge with the public – including through the science communication competition Paasisavut.
As leader of Arctic Hub, Avijâja Rosing-Olsen will play a key role in developing and shaping research in Greenland – a role she is eager to take on.
“I see it as my foremost task to ensure that research in Greenland benefits the people and society. There is much research taking place in Greenland that can be strengthened by ensuring co-creation with the local population, by keeping cultures and values in mind, and by creating opportunities for people to meet and exchange ideas. Here, Arctic Hub plays an important role as a connector – not least in sparking curiosity and interest in research among our children and young people.”
High expectations
Chairman of the Board of Arctic Hub, Mininnguaq Kleist, looks forward to the collaboration and has high expectations for the new Head of Secretariat:
“The board was unanimous in appointing Avijâja Rosing-Olsen to lead Arctic Hub. “Avijâja’s heart beats for the development of our society, and we are truly pleased that she will help develop the research field. She brings experience in strategic leadership, extensive knowledge of both the Greenlandic and Danish political systems, and, through her work in the climate field, has gained broad exposure to the research sector – all of which will serve her well in her new role as Head of Secretariat for Arctic Hub.”
Avijâja Rosing-Olsen will assume the position on October 1, 2025.
